¿Cuándo es Mother's Day en 2026?
Modern Mother's Day was established by Anna Jarvis in 1908 to honor her own mother. It became an official US holiday in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed it into law. Ironically, Jarvis later campaigned against the commercialization of the holiday she created.
Common traditions include giving flowers (especially carnations), cards, and gifts. Many families prepare breakfast in bed or take mothers out for a special meal. Children often create handmade crafts and cards at school.
The UK celebrates Mothering Sunday on the fourth Sunday of Lent. In Thailand, Mother's Day is celebrated on the queen's birthday (August 12). In Ethiopia, families gather for a multi-day feast called Antrosht. Mexico celebrates on May 10 regardless of the day of the week.
