Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ and has been observed since the 4th century. The date of December 25 was chosen to coincide with existing winter solstice festivals. Over centuries, it evolved from a purely religious observance into a global cultural celebration combining religious traditions with secular customs like gift-giving and festive decorations.

Common traditions include decorating Christmas trees, exchanging gifts, singing carols, attending church services, and sharing festive meals. Santa Claus, derived from the Dutch Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas), has become an iconic symbol. Advent calendars count down the days, while mistletoe, holly, and poinsettias serve as traditional decorations.

In Japan, eating KFC on Christmas Eve has become a beloved tradition. Ethiopian Christians celebrate on January 7, while in the Philippines, the holiday season begins as early as September.
